OWCP Mileage Reimbursement
The current mileage reimbursement rate for OWCP claims is 58.5 cents per mile. This rate is effective January 1, 2023. You can find the most up-to-date mileage reimbursement rates on the OWCP website.
To be reimbursed for mileage, you must use your personal vehicle to travel to and from medical appointments that are related to your OWCP claim. You must also keep a record of your mileage, either by tracking your odometer or keeping a mileage log.
When you submit your claim for reimbursement, you will need to provide the following information:
- Your OWCP claim number
- The date and time of your medical appointment
- The name and address of the medical facility
- The total number of miles traveled
You may also need to provide receipts for any tolls or parking fees that you incurred.
If you are traveling more than 100 miles one way or 200 miles roundtrip, you will need to get prior authorization from the OWCP district office. You can contact your district office by phone or email.
To submit your claim for mileage reimbursement, you can use the OWCP-957 Medical Travel Refund Request form. This form is available on the OWCP website. You can also submit your claim by mail or fax.
The OWCP will typically process your claim within 30 days of receiving it. If your claim is approved, you will be reimbursed by check or direct deposit.
Here are some additional things to keep in mind when submitting a mileage reimbursement claim for OWCP:
- You can only be reimbursed for mileage that is directly related to your OWCP claim.
- You cannot be reimbursed for mileage that you would have incurred even if you did not have an OWCP claim.
- You must keep a record of your mileage for at least 3 years.
- If you are audited, you may be required to provide documentation to support your claim.
